Install your eSIM on Android — step by step

Where the eSIM menu lives, by manufacturer

Android has no single path to this screen. Each manufacturer names it differently, and the names change between versions of the same skin, so treat the paths below as the current wording rather than a guarantee. If nothing on your phone matches, use the search box at the top of Settings: try eSIM first, then SIM. Most skins index menu entries there, but a skin can name the entry in a way neither word matches.

Samsung (One UI): Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. Older One UI builds call the screen SIM card manager. On the screen that follows, the scan option is usually Scan QR code, worded Scan QR code from service provider on some builds.
Google Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs. Current builds continue Add SIM → Set up an eSIM. Older builds reach the same place through a Download a SIM instead? link on the screen that asks you to insert a SIM.
Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO (MIUI / HyperOS): Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks on MIUI; some HyperOS builds route it through Mobile networks → SIM management instead. If there is no eSIM entry at all, this unit's firmware will not add one — Xiaomi eSIM support depends on both the model and the ROM the phone shipped with, and China-ROM units have it switched off even where the hardware is present.
OnePlus and OPPO (OxygenOS / ColorOS): OxygenOS 15 follows the stock naming: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM. Earlier OxygenOS and ColorOS builds put it under Mobile network or SIM card & mobile data. These two skins move the entry more often than the others; if neither path matches, use the Settings search.

Check that your exact unit supports eSIM

On Android, eSIM support depends on the model and on the regional variant of that model. The same phone, same marketing name, ships with an eSIM in one market and with two physical SIM trays and none in another. Check the handset in your hand, not a spec sheet for the model name.

Look for an EID: Open the phone dialer and enter *#06#. On most Android phones this panel lists the IMEI and, where an eSIM is present, a 32-digit EID. Some phones show the EID only under Settings → About phone → SIM status (labelled IMEI information on some skins), so check there as well before concluding there is no eSIM.
Same model, different market: A model sold with eSIM in Europe can ship without it in India or parts of Southeast Asia, and operator-branded variants sometimes accept only that operator's own profiles. What identifies your unit is the model code in Settings → About phone — Samsung prints it as SM- plus digits and a region letter — not the name on the box.
Hardware present is not the same as menu present: The EID tells you the chip is there. The menu tells you the firmware will let you use it. If the add-eSIM entry exists and opens a scanner, the phone can install a profile; an EID with no menu anywhere in Settings means the firmware, not the hardware, is the limit.

Dual SIM: data on Roamzy, calls on your home SIM

Android assigns calls, texts and mobile data to lines separately, and only one line carries mobile data at a time. Roamzy is data-only — no voice, no SMS on this line — so your home SIM stays switched on and keeps your number reachable for calls and texts while data runs over Roamzy. The labels below differ by skin.

Assign the three jobs: Samsung: SIM manager → Preferred SIM card, where Calls, Text messages and Mobile data are separate rows. Pixel: Network & internet → SIMs, then under Your primary SIMs tap Calls, Texts or Mobile data. Some regional builds expose fewer of these three as separate choices.
Turn off automatic data switching: Samsung calls it Auto data switching and keeps it in SIM manager; Pixel calls it Automatic data switching. It moves mobile data to the other line when the current data line looks weak — abroad, that other line is your home SIM. If your home SIM has data roaming on, that can mean your home operator's roaming rates; if it does not, data simply stops. Either way you did not ask for the switch, so turn it off before you travel. It is an Android 12 and newer feature and is missing on some builds.
Data roaming has to be on for the Roamzy line: The Roamzy profile is always a visitor on a local partner network, so the line needs Data roaming on or it carries no data. Pixel: SIMs → tap the Roamzy line → Roaming. Samsung: Connections → Mobile networks → Data roaming — on a number of One UI builds that single switch covers both SIMs rather than one line, so read what the screen says it applies to. Roaming being on does not put Roamzy data on anyone's roaming tariff: Roamzy meters its own per-megabyte rate.
If you want certainty about your home number: Keep Mobile data assigned to the Roamzy line and automatic switching off, and your home line should not be passing data. If your phone shares one roaming switch between both SIMs, the dependable fix is on the operator's side: ask your home operator to bar data roaming on your number. Voice and SMS roaming charges from your home operator still apply whenever you actually make a call or send a text.

If the QR option isn't there, or the line installs but carries no data

Work through these before assuming the profile is faulty. Your Roamzy dashboard holds both the QR image and the same profile as a copyable code, so either route stays open to you.

The scanner is one level in: On several skins nothing named QR appears on the SIM list itself. Open Add eSIM or Add SIM first and choose the eSIM branch — the scanner and the manual-entry option both live on the screen after that.
Type the code instead: Beside the QR, the dashboard shows the same profile as a Manual code: an SM-DP+ activation code in the form LPA:1$<server>$, with a Copy button. Android names the entry point Enter activation code, Enter code manually or Enter details manually depending on the build. Some builds accept the whole LPA:1$… string in one field. Samsung asks for the SM-DP+ address and the activation code in two fields: the address is the part between the first and second $, the code is everything after the second one. It installs the identical profile.
Company-owned phones: On a phone that is fully managed by an employer, an administrator can lock the mobile-network settings and the eSIM entries stay greyed out; only that administrator can lift it. A personal phone that merely has a work profile added is not restricted this way.
Old Android builds: Android's own eSIM download support arrives with Android 9 and only becomes common from Android 10. On an older build there is often no download screen even on hardware that reports an EID.
Leave the APN empty: If the profile installs and the line registers but nothing loads, do not hand-type an APN. The Roamzy profile sets its own; a manually added entry can take precedence and stop data altogether. Android exposes the field openly — Samsung: Connections → Mobile networks → Access Point Names; Pixel: SIMs → the line → Access Point Names — so it is easy to break by accident. Delete any APN you added for this line, then restart the phone.
